Dallas Mavericks center Dereck Lively II is expected to participate fully in the team’s training camp after undergoing off-season surgery on his right foot, according to the Dallas Hoops Journal.

The 20-year-old had a July procedure to remove bone spurs, a follow-up to the stress fracture diagnosed in January. He initially wore a walking boot during recovery, team sources said.

Handling of Lively’s injury last season reportedly sparked a dispute between director of health and performance Johann Bilsborough and athletic performance director Keith Belton.

Injuries limited the 7-footer to 36 games in 2024-25, when he averaged 8.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.6 blocks across 23.1 minutes.

The Mavericks recently shared video of Lively working out in Philadelphia alongside head video coordinator Riley Crean as part of his rehabilitation program.

Throughout the offseason, Lively has also remained in regular contact with rookie forward Cooper Flagg, providing guidance as the No. 1 pick acclimates to the NBA.
