The Los Angeles Lakers said Monday that guard Gabe Vincent is experiencing lower back tightness and will be re-evaluated in one week.
The setback is the second injury issue of the season for the 30-year-old, who already missed 11 games with a left ankle sprain. Since joining the Lakers in 2023, Vincent has dealt with multiple physical problems, including a right knee injury that limited him to 11 appearances during his first year in Los Angeles. He bounced back last season, playing in 72 contests and becoming a steady option off the bench.
Through 17 games this year, Vincent is averaging 6.1 points and shooting 36.2% from three-point range. With Austin Reaves also sidelined, head coach JJ Redick will have to adjust his backcourt rotation. Second-year guard Dalton Knecht, two-way player Nick Smith Jr., and rookie Adou Thiero are candidates for expanded roles.
The Lakers will provide an update on Vincent’s status after the one-week evaluation period.
