LJUBLJANA, Slovenia — Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic avoided a major setback after appearing to hurt his right knee in Slovenia’s 100–88 exhibition defeat to Latvia on Aug. 16, 2025.

The 26-year-old left the game early in the third quarter when a teammate, attempting to draw an offensive foul, collided with Doncic’s knee. He had already registered 26 points, four rebounds and five assists in the first half.

According to The Athletic’s Dan Woike, initial evaluations indicated no significant damage: “Source tells me that he’s avoided any serious injury on the play,” Woike reported on X (formerly Twitter).

Doncic returned to Slovenia’s bench after being examined in the locker room and watched the remainder of the contest, appearing to be in good spirits. The mishap occurred amid a difficult summer for the Slovenian national team, now 0–4 in exhibition play ahead of EuroBasket 2025.

The Lakers and Slovenian basketball officials have not yet announced whether Doncic will continue in the tournament or sit out as a precaution ahead of the upcoming NBA season.
