San Francisco — The Golden State Warriors are expected to entertain trade offers for forward Jonathan Kuminga once he becomes eligible to be moved on Jan. 15, and league sources say the Chicago Bulls are among the teams preparing to inquire.
Insider Marc Stein reported that rival clubs believe the Warriors will explore a deal for the 23-year-old well before the Feb. 5 trade deadline. Kuminga’s current contract prevents any trade until mid-January, but front-office executives have already begun checking on his availability.
According to Stein, Chicago has previously discussed Kuminga with Golden State. Past exploratory talks, which never advanced, reportedly included different scenarios featuring Alex Caruso, Zach LaVine and Nikola Vučević, depending on timing and roster needs.
The Warriors have long valued Kuminga’s athleticism and potential, yet his playing time has fluctuated on a roster built around Stephen Curry and focused on immediate contention. With roster balance still in question, multiple executives view Kuminga as Golden State’s most realistic trade chip.
Whether Chicago reengages remains uncertain, but league personnel expect the Warriors to listen once the window opens.
