ATLANTA — Kristaps Porzingis returned from a four-game absence on Friday night in Denver, then stayed in street clothes for the back half of the Atlanta Hawks’ back-to-back on Saturday in Washington, the club confirmed. The 7-foot-3 center, who had been sidelined by an undisclosed illness, said the recent setback was not related to the postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome that cost him significant time last season.

“It wasn’t the same thing,” Porzingis explained after logging 20 minutes against the Nuggets. “I just didn’t feel well, but it’s not connected to last year.” Working under a minutes cap and coming off the bench, he still produced 25 points on 9-for-13 shooting, adding two rebounds and two blocks. Though he prefers starting, Porzingis said he is willing to accept any role that helps the Hawks win.

Johnson Posts Lightning-Fast Triple-Double

Fifth-year forward Jalen Johnson continued his breakout season on Friday, recording a triple-double before halftime and finishing with 21 points, 18 rebounds and 16 assists. According to The Athletic, it was the NBA’s second-quickest triple-double on record and just the sixth ever secured in the first half. “We feed off him,” head coach Quin Snyder said.

Wizards 3-17 After 20 Games

In Washington, a 3-17 start has the Wizards aligned with lottery objectives. Their first-round pick is top-eight protected, providing incentive to remain near the bottom of the standings. Second-year players Keyonte George and Alex Sarr have shown progress despite the losses. “We’ve come a long way since opening night,” Sarr told The Athletic, noting frustration over several late-game letdowns.

McNeeley Relishes Limited Minutes

Charlotte Hornets rookie Liam McNeeley, selected late in the first round, has seen inconsistent floor time but said he is savoring every moment of his inaugural campaign. “I’m living the dream,” the 19-year-old forward told Hornets.com, smiling broadly. “It’s everything I imagined and more.”
