Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and his representative, agent Alex Saratsis, have opened discussions with team officials to assess the forward’s long-term plans, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The conversations mark the most concrete indication to date that the two-time NBA MVP is weighing whether his career path should remain in Milwaukee or shift elsewhere. League sources told ESPN that both sides hope to reach clarity within the next few weeks.

Antetokounmpo’s future has been a lingering issue since the Bucks’ first-round playoff exit last spring, compounded by Damian Lillard’s season-ending Achilles injury. While the 29-year-old has repeatedly voiced appreciation for the city and organization, he has also emphasized that consistent title contention is his top priority.

Over the summer, Antetokounmpo publicly questioned the club’s championship trajectory and acknowledged that he might explore other options if winning standards were not met, reportedly showing interest in the New York Knicks. Although Milwaukee and New York discussed potential trade frameworks, no agreement materialized.

In an effort to bolster the roster around its franchise cornerstone, Milwaukee restructured Lillard’s maximum contract to open cap space and signed center Myles Turner. Antetokounmpo entered the season intending to evaluate the first 25 games before making any decisions.

Through 22 contests, the Bucks have lost eight of their last nine and sit at 9-13, currently outside the Eastern Conference’s top 10. Sources described the slump as increasingly frustrating and suggested that a rapid turnaround may be necessary to keep Antetokounmpo committed long term.

A decisive period now looms as player, agent, and franchise attempt to determine the best course before the season’s midpoint.
