The New Orleans Pelicans announced Tuesday that forward Zion Williamson has been diagnosed with a grade 2 strain of the right hip adductor and will be re-evaluated in three weeks, according to multiple sources.
Williamson, 25, has already missed 11 games this season. He sat out eight consecutive contests in November because of a hamstring issue and skipped two additional games that fell on the second night of back-to-back sets after his return.
The seventh-year veteran is averaging 22.1 points and 5.6 rebounds over 10 appearances this season. Since being selected first overall in the 2019 NBA draft, Williamson has played in 224 of the Pelicans’ 493 regular-season games, or 45% of the total, per ESPN Research.
New Orleans enters Tuesday at 3-18, the league’s worst record. The team’s net efficiency stands at -3.0 when Williamson is on the court compared with -13.9 when he is off, also per ESPN Research.
