An MRI has revealed a left adductor strain for Philadelphia 76ers forward Trendon Watford, the team announced Wednesday. The 25-year-old exited Tuesday’s road loss to the Orlando Magic in the first half.
Philadelphia said Watford will be re-evaluated in two weeks, ruling him out for at least the next six games, beginning with Friday’s matchup against the Brooklyn Nets.
This is Watford’s second injury interruption of the season. He sat out the first three games in October with a hamstring issue but had since appeared in 14 straight contests, starting four, and averaging 20.3 minutes. Over that span he has produced 8.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists while shooting 53.4 percent from the field, 38.9 percent from three and 80.0 percent at the line. The Sixers own a +1.9 net rating during his 286 minutes and a –3.8 mark when he is off the floor.
Forwards Jabari Walker and Paul George are the leading candidates to absorb Watford’s minutes. George missed Tuesday’s game with a right ankle sprain but returned to practice Wednesday, according to The Philly Voice’s Adam Aaronson. Rookie guard VJ Edgecombe, sidelined the past two games by left calf tightness, also practiced.
Center Joel Embiid, out since Nov. 8 because of right knee soreness, did not practice Wednesday but completed individual strength and conditioning work, Aaronson reported.
