LOS ANGELES — Rookie forward Jake LaRavia labeled his first game alongside LeBron James as “dope” after scoring 16 points in the Los Angeles Lakers’ victory over the Utah Jazz on November 18, 2025, at Crypto.com Arena.

James returned from a brief absence and, despite a slow start offensively, took control in the fourth quarter as a playmaker while reporting no physical issues afterward. LaRavia, who had filled in for James during the previous stretch of games, immediately benefited from the four-time MVP’s presence.

“It was dope to finally get on the court with him,” LaRavia said postgame. “He brings something to this team that we really didn’t have — another level of passing and the force he is in transition.” The forward knocked down his first shot off a James assist, noting that the quick connection “put us in good standing.”

LaRavia described a pivotal sequence that followed a timeout, recalling how James told him, “Just cut behind him and I’ll find you.” The play produced an and-one dunk when LaRavia slipped behind his defender as James delivered the pass from the post.

Comparing James to Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, LaRavia praised the veteran’s vision and basketball IQ. “He’s kind of like Luka in the way he sees the game,” LaRavia said, adding that he looks forward to learning more as the season progresses.

James, who reportedly asked that Doncic be the final starter introduced despite the anticipation surrounding his own return, finished the night emphasizing distribution and spacing to elevate the Lakers’ supporting cast — a role that appears to suit LaRavia well.
