Sacramento, CA — The Sacramento Kings will be without three-time All-Star center Domantas Sabonis for a minimum of three to four weeks after an MRI revealed a partial tear of the meniscus in his left knee, the team confirmed on Thursday.
ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the injury, noting that Sabonis will be re-evaluated at the end of the initial recovery window. According to the Kings’ statement, the 29-year-old experienced soreness following Sunday’s road win in San Antonio and underwent imaging that detected the tear.
Sabonis has battled multiple issues this fall, already missing three contests with hamstring and rib ailments. He also sat out Wednesday’s defeat in Oklahoma City, the club’s seventh straight loss.
The timing compounds Sacramento’s struggles. The Kings enter Thursday at 3-12, their worst start since the 2021-22 season, with each of the seven consecutive losses coming by double digits. Head coach Doug Christie nevertheless praised his roster’s intensity after falling to the defending champions on Wednesday, saying, “That’s what we need to get ourselves out of where we’re at.”
The frontcourt will lean on Precious Achiuwa, Drew Eubanks and rookie Maxime Raynaud while Sabonis recovers. Sacramento is expected to welcome starting forward Keegan Murray back on Thursday after he missed the first 15 games following thumb surgery.
