New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 sprain of his right ankle and will be monitored on a day-to-day basis, sources told ESPN on Thursday.
The injury occurred with 1:52 remaining in Wednesday night’s 124-107 loss to the Orlando Magic at Madison Square Garden. Brunson was hurt on a drive to the basket and immediately left the game. He finished with 31 points and six assists.
According to the team’s injury report, Brunson will miss Friday’s home matchup against the Miami Heat. After the game, coach Mike Brown said Brunson had “turned his ankle” but provided no further details. Reporters later saw the 27-year-old leaving the arena in a walking boot and using crutches.
This is the same ankle Brunson sprained last season, an injury that sidelined him for 15 games and lingered into the postseason. Wednesday’s defeat snapped New York’s five-game winning streak and marked the club’s first home loss after a 7-0 start at MSG.
