New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson departed Madison Square Garden on crutches Wednesday night after hurting his right ankle during a 118-102 loss to the Orlando Magic.
The injury occurred with 1:54 remaining in the fourth quarter. Brunson drove into the lane, planted his right foot and saw the ankle roll awkwardly, sending him to the floor in visible pain. He stayed in long enough to convert two free throws before leaving the game for good.
Postgame, Brunson did not address reporters, and head coach Mike Brown said he had no immediate update on the guard’s status. The 29-year-old was later spotted wearing a walking boot on his right foot as he exited the arena.
Since signing with New York in 2022, Brunson has played at least 65 regular-season games in each of his three seasons. He missed roughly a month late in the 2024/25 campaign after badly spraining the same ankle.
The timing of Wednesday’s injury could draw scrutiny. Brown had vowed during training camp to preserve players’ health by removing starters early in decided games—a departure from former coach Tom Thibodeau’s approach. The Knicks trailed by 16 points when Brunson was hurt.
