Rockets Connected to Ja Morant Trade Speculation, Yet Holding Off for Now

Trade chatter surrounding Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant continues to circulate, but league sources say the Houston Rockets are not actively pursuing a deal at this stage.

According to The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer, rival front-office executives view Houston as a logical landing spot after Rockets point guard Fred VanVleet suffered a season-ending knee injury. At 26, Morant would seemingly fill Houston’s need for additional backcourt playmaking.

Despite that fit on paper, Fischer reports the Rockets have adopted a wait-and-see approach. The Athletic’s Sam Amick echoed the same sentiment earlier in the week, noting the club wants to evaluate its current roster over a larger sample of games before considering major moves.

While Houston pauses, Memphis sits at 3-6 and has already suspended Morant once this season. Forward Jaren Jackson Jr. is still adjusting to head coach Tuomas Iisalo’s system, and several rotation players remain sidelined with injuries, leaving the Grizzlies hesitant to make immediate roster decisions.

For now, league speculation around Morant’s future is expected to persist, but Houston is not in active pursuit.
