The New York Knicks are set to hire T.J. Saint as an assistant coach under head coach Mike Brown, according to a report from SNY’s Ian Begley on August 11.

Saint joins the Knicks after five seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans’ G League affiliate, renamed the Birmingham Squadron in 2021. He arrived in 2019-20 when the club was still the Erie BayHawks, earned a promotion to associate head coach in 2020, and became head coach in 2022.

Regarded around the NBA as a creative offensive strategist, Saint guided the Squadron to the G League’s top-ranked offense during the 2023-24 campaign.

Before his G League tenure, Saint served as director of basketball strategy at the University of Georgia in 2018-19 and spent four seasons (2014-18) as the Detroit Pistons’ video coordinator.

The move is one of several staff changes since New York replaced former head coach Tom Thibodeau with Brown. New assistants Chris Jent and Brendan O’Connor are slated to oversee offense and defense, respectively. Holdovers Rick Brunson and Maurice Cheeks will remain on the bench, while Charles Allen and Riccardo Fois, both part of Brown’s player development group in Sacramento, are also joining the organization.
