During a summer stop on his Jordan Brand promotional tour, Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic was asked to assemble the “perfect” NBA player by selecting one name for five separate skills: basketball IQ, strength, passing, shooting and mentality.
The 27-year-old guard chose three former Lakers to fill those categories. He named LeBron James for IQ, Shaquille O’Neal for strength and Kobe Bryant for mentality. Doncic completed the lineup with Stephen Curry for shooting and Steve Nash for passing.
James, widely praised for his court vision and decision-making, has often been cited as one of the most cerebral players in league history. O’Neal’s physical dominance during his peak seasons made him an easy pick for pure power, while Bryant’s famed “Mamba Mentality” has become synonymous with relentless preparation and competitive drive. Curry’s record-breaking three-point accuracy virtually guaranteed his inclusion as the shooting specialist. Nash, a two-time league MVP, rounded out the list as Doncic’s choice for elite distribution.
Doncic Welcomes Lakers’ Offseason Additions
Beyond his offseason marketing commitments, Doncic has expressed optimism about the Lakers’ recent roster moves. Los Angeles traded for center Walker Kessler, signed Quentin Grimes, Sandro Mamukelashvili and Collin Sexton, and re-upped guard Austin Reaves on a four-year contract. The franchise hopes the retooled lineup will accelerate Doncic’s pursuit of his first NBA championship in purple and gold.
