The NBA has flexed the Los Angeles Lakers’ Dec. 30 home game against the Detroit Pistons into a national primetime slot, the league announced Monday.
The meeting at Crypto.com Arena will now tip off at 7:30 p.m. PT and be carried on NBC, with a simultaneous live stream on Peacock. It completes an NBC Sports doubleheader that opens with the Philadelphia 76ers visiting the Memphis Grizzlies earlier that evening.
Detroit–Los Angeles replaces the Sacramento Kings–Los Angeles Clippers matchup originally slated for the national window; the Kings–Clippers game will be shown only on local broadcasts.
Standings Prompt the Switch
The Pistons lead the Eastern Conference at 20–5, while the Lakers have started 17–7 behind strong play from Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves. By contrast, both the Kings and Clippers have struggled in the season’s opening weeks, leading NBC Sports to adjust its schedule.
LeBron James Turns 41 on Game Day
The contest lands on LeBron James’ 41st birthday, making him one of just 12 players in NBA history to appear in a game at that age. In his 23rd season, the four-time MVP is averaging 16.5 points, 7.6 assists and 6.0 rebounds over eight appearances.
James recently notched his 1,015th regular-season victory, surpassing Robert Parish for second place on the league’s all-time wins list. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar holds the record with 1,074 wins.
Tip-off for the Lakers-Pistons matchup remains set for 7:30 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock.
