Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. said he doubted the authenticity of recent comments by agent Rich Paul that proposed sending Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves to Memphis in exchange for Jackson.
Paul, who represents LeBron James and several other NBA stars, floated the idea on the latest episode of his “Game Over” podcast with Max Kellerman, suggesting the Lakers should center a trade package around Reaves for Jackson. Paul argued that Jackson would be a stronger long-term fit in Los Angeles, while Reaves would still secure a lucrative contract this summer when he becomes a free agent.
When Jackson first saw the remarks, he questioned whether the clip was real. “There’s just a lot of podcasts,” Jackson told The Athletic’s Joe Vardon. “At first, I didn’t think it was real. You have to figure out if it’s real, usually now, and I’m not as versed technology-wise as these people younger than me. I was figuring out if it’s AI, deepfake, all that stuff. That’s all I had; I didn’t really have much of a reaction.”
The notion of a prominent agent publicly pushing a trade involving one of his star client’s teammates quickly drew attention across the league. While Jackson appeared unfazed, the situation prompted a brief courtside exchange: Reaves’ representative reportedly spoke with Paul during halftime of the Lakers’ recent game against the Atlanta Hawks.
With no indication that either franchise is actively pursuing the proposal, the discussion now appears to have cooled. Jackson, in his eighth NBA season, noted he is accustomed to hearing his name surface in trade chatter, even if this instance arrived from an unexpected source.
