Dillon Brooks brands Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt as “one of the dumbest players in the NBA”

Phoenix Suns wing Dillon Brooks revived his rivalry with the Los Angeles Lakers by calling Jarred Vanderbilt “one of the dumbest players in the NBA” during a recent appearance on content creator Ray’s show.
“I’m going to throw a shot. I can’t even lie. This guy doesn’t even like me, to be honest with you, but who cares. Jared Vanderbilt,” Brooks said when asked who he considers the league’s least cerebral player. Brooks added that Vanderbilt—nicknamed “Vando”—is “a rebounder, can’t shoot, defense,” before noting the 24-year-old forward has “way more potential” that remains “untapping.”
The comment follows a series of on-court skirmishes between the two, including a heated exchange on Jan. 29 at Houston’s Toyota Center, when Vanderbilt reacted after colliding with Brooks during a Lakers–Rockets game. Vanderbilt has earned a reputation as Los Angeles’ defensive enforcer and is frequently involved in confrontations with opponents and officials.
Brooks, who joined the Suns last offseason, has long positioned himself as an antagonist toward the Lakers, most notably four-time MVP LeBron James. Despite that posture, Brooks recently told Yahoo Sports it has “been a pleasure to battle” James and predicted the 39-year-old superstar has “one more” season left.
Both the Suns and Lakers were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in this year’s postseason, but Brooks’ latest jab ensures the personal feud will remain a storyline when the Pacific Division rivals meet again next season.
