Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, preparing for his 16th NBA campaign, said he still cannot predict when he will walk away from basketball.

“No clue. I just know it’s closer than it was even yesterday,” the two-time MVP told ESPN’s Malika Andrews when asked about retirement. Curry added that acknowledging the eventual end makes him value the preparation process even more, but he is avoiding any firm timetable and instead focusing on a heightened “sense of urgency” each day.

Milestones Continue to Pile Up

Despite the uncertainty about his future, the 36-year-old continues to reach historic marks. In 70 starts last season, Curry averaged 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.1 steals while shooting 44.8% overall, 39.7% from three and 93.3% at the free-throw line.

On Mar. 8 he became the 26th player in league history to eclipse 25,000 career points, accomplishing the feat in his 1,011th regular-season appearance during a 115-110 win over the Detroit Pistons. He finished that game with 32 points, three rebounds, four assists and one steal.

Curry also crossed the 4,000 made three-pointer threshold last season. He leads the all-time list with 4,058 triples; James Harden is the only other player to exceed 3,000.

“It feels like 25,000 threes, actually,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr joked after the 25,000-point milestone, praising Curry for attacking the rim and getting to the foul line 12 times on a night when his perimeter shot was off.

Contract Locked In Through 2026-27

Last August, Curry signed a one-year, $62.6 million extension that keeps him under contract with Golden State through the 2026-27 season. The 11-time All-Star has now exceeded $500 million in career earnings, joining LeBron James, Paul George and Kevin Durant in that category.

The extension was limited to one year because of the NBA’s over-38 rule, which bars deals of four years or more for players who will turn 38 during the contract.

Looking Ahead

Golden State is scheduled to open the 2025-26 season on Oct. 21 in Los Angeles against the Lakers. Until then, Curry says he will keep his focus on the present—without setting a date for his final NBA game.
