Chicago Bulls guard Coby White is closing in on his first appearance of the season after missing time with a right calf strain, The Athletic’s Joel Lorenzi reported.
Lorenzi said the 24-year-old is eyeing Chicago’s three-game road swing that begins on Nov. 16 or one of the following contests against the Denver Nuggets or Portland Trail Blazers for a possible return. White and head coach Billy Donovan indicated the guard is expected to rejoin full practices next week, with Donovan pointing to the club’s three-day break that starts on Nov. 13 as an ideal window for full-contact work.
White has already resumed on-court activity, taking part in 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 sessions with members of the player development staff and select teammates. Video posted by Lorenzi on Nov. 6, 2025, showed White working out with trainer Matt Voss.
The former first-round pick suffered the calf injury in mid-August and did not appear in preseason action. Initial hopes of being available for the regular-season opener were dashed when the team opted to reevaluate him after he experienced renewed tightness. “I practiced a little too long and felt some symptoms,” White said. “It wasn’t a re-strain—just a minor setback.”
Contract Year Ahead
White is in the final season of a three-year, $36 million contract that includes nearly $4 million in incentives. He is earning $12.88 million this year and will become an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
Career-Best Campaign in 2024-25
In 74 games last season, White averaged a career-high 20.4 points along with 3.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists while shooting 45.3% from the field and 37% from three-point range. He captured Eastern Conference Player of the Month honors in March after averaging 27.7 points and delivering three consecutive 35-point outings. The UNC product set a personal best with 44 points in a win at Orlando on March 6, shooting 16-for-28 overall and 7-for-15 from long distance.
White finished second to Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey in the 2023-24 Most Improved Player voting after posting what was then a career-high 19.1 points per game.
Chicago begins its trip on Nov. 16, and the Bulls could have their starting guard back in uniform before the swing concludes.
