The Washington Wizards are converting two-way guard/forward Jamir Watkins to a full NBA contract and have agreed to a new two-year deal with the 24-year-old, according to his representatives at CAA Sports and ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Selected 43rd overall in the 2025 draft, Watkins was one of three second-round picks Washington obtained from Utah after moving down from No. 18 to No. 21 in the first round. He signed his initial two-way agreement last July.
Watkins saw limited minutes early in the 2025/26 campaign but has become a regular part of head coach Brian Keefe’s rotation since Jan. 16. Over 16 games in that span, the 6-6 wing is averaging 8.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals while logging 24.8 minutes per contest. He has reached double figures in scoring in six consecutive outings and is regarded as a strong perimeter defender.
The rookie is the second Washington two-way player promoted in the past week, following center Tristan Vukcevic. The Wizards used a portion of their mid-level exception to give Vukcevic more than the minimum for the rest of the season; it remains unknown whether Watkins’ contract will include similar terms or any guaranteed money beyond 2025/26.
Washington did not need to clear a roster spot, as the 15th position opened when Alondes Williams’ 10-day contract expired Wednesday night. Watkins’ elevation leaves one two-way slot available alongside Sharife Cooper and Leaky Black.
