The NBA coaching carousel is already spinning, and multiple franchises are expected to explore new directions once the season ends, league sources told HoopsHype.
Bucks move on from Doc Rivers
Milwaukee’s decision to part ways with Doc Rivers has opened one of the league’s most attractive benches. Lead assistant Darvin Ham is under consideration, but the Bucks are also expected to gauge interest in former Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins, who previously served on Mike Budenholzer’s staff in Milwaukee.
James Borrego could enter the picture if the Pelicans do not retain him; Borrego interviewed with the Bucks before taking his current post in New Orleans.
Bulls hope to keep Billy Donovan
In Chicago, the front office intends to keep Billy Donovan after recent executive changes. However, sources say the Magic would have interest in Donovan should they decide to replace Jamahl Mosley.
On the personnel side, the Bulls are eyeing Timberwolves general manager Matt Lloyd and player agent Austin Brown as possible additions.
Magic, Pelicans weigh options
If Orlando opens its coaching post, the search could include Jenkins, Tom Thibodeau and Borrego, who has previous ties to the franchise.
New Orleans is still evaluating its own bench. While Borrego remains a candidate to stay, Ham and Kevin Ollie are also in the mix. Mosley’s name has surfaced there as well, should he become available.
Other situations to watch
Trail Blazers: Interim coach Tiago Splitter will be considered after guiding Portland to the No. 8 seed, but the team plans a broad search.
Wizards: Interim coach Brian Keefe has support within the organization, though Washington has not made a final decision.
Warriors: Golden State and Steve Kerr will discuss their future this off-season. Star guard Stephen Curry remains a strong advocate for Kerr, but the franchise is evaluating long-term plans after a challenging year.
Hawks: Atlanta’s late-season surge could trigger an extension for coach Quin Snyder, according to league sources.
No hiring decisions are expected until teams conclude their playoff runs, but executives anticipate an unusually busy coaching market once the off-season officially begins.
