The Washington Wizards formalized several coaching moves in a press release issued Monday, outlining a revamped staff for the 2026-27 campaign.
Assistant coach T.J. Sorrentine will guide the club’s summer-league entry in Las Vegas. Sorrentine has spent the past two seasons on head coach Brian Keefe’s bench after more than a decade at Brown University.
Former lead assistant David Vanterpool is shifting into a front-office role, while assistant coach Adam Caporn—who also heads Australia’s men’s national team—has been elevated to lead assistant.
The team confirmed two high-profile additions: Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing joins Keefe’s staff as an assistant coach, and longtime NBA head coach Steve Clifford arrives as an advisor after holding a similar position with the Phoenix Suns last season.
Within the organization, Cody Toppert moves up to full-time assistant coach following three seasons as head coach of the Capital City Go-Go, the Wizards’ G League affiliate. Under Toppert, the Go-Go secured three straight playoff appearances and saw 13 players earn NBA call-ups.
Tevon Saddler, who spent the past three years as head coach at Nicholls State, will replace Toppert at the helm of the Go-Go and simultaneously serve as a Wizards assistant.
The newly structured staff will be in place when training camp opens this fall.
