Wiseman Mulls Maccabi Tel Aviv Offer; Updates on Toppin, Luis and Ingles

Former No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman is weighing a contract proposal from Maccabi Tel Aviv, according to Israel Hayom’s Tomer Givati. The 25-year-old center is reportedly open to an overseas move that would provide steadier minutes after appearing in only four games for the Pacers this season. Indiana released him on Dec. 26, one year after he logged just a single contest due to an Achilles tear.

Another Israeli club, Hapoel Tel Aviv, is in discussions with ex-NBA forward Jacob Toppin, Sport5 reports. Because Toppin is recognized as Jewish, he would not count against the team’s foreign-player limit. The Hawks waived the 24-year-old two-way player in mid-December following season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum suffered during a G League game with the College Park Skyhawks.

In college news, former St. John’s standout RJ Luis—the 2025 Big East Player of the Year—has committed to LSU, ESPN’s Jeff Borzello writes. The guard faces a lengthy eligibility process after going undrafted last year and then signing a two-way deal with the Jazz. Utah traded him to Boston in early August, and the Celtics later waived him. Luis subsequently signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Maine Celtics but was released before playing because of injury.

Veteran swingman Joe Ingles confirmed he will extend his career at home, agreeing to a two-year pact with Melbourne United. The 37-year-old told ESPN’s Olgun Uluc that limited minutes with the Timberwolves this season fueled his decision: “I knew, deep down, I had that itch to play… I would play really well, I felt really good.”

All four players are expected to finalize their next steps in the coming weeks as offseason rosters take shape worldwide.
