San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has been ruled out of Friday’s Game 3 against the Portland Trail Blazers, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Wembanyama participated in the morning shootaround as he worked through the NBA’s concussion protocol following a hard fall in Game 2, but the team ultimately decided he was not ready to return.
“Obviously, there’s a lot that goes into that, but he’s doing well and progressing,” head coach Mitch Johnson told reporters. When pressed for specifics, Johnson declined to elaborate, repeating only that the 7-foot-4 center is “making progress.”
No timetable has been provided for Wembanyama’s next evaluation, leaving his status for future games uncertain.
