Golden State guard Stephen Curry will not accompany the team on its upcoming trip to Philadelphia, Cleveland and Chicago as he continues to recover from a left thigh contusion, head coach Steve Kerr said Wednesday.

The decision sidelines the two-time MVP for at least three more contests, extending his absence to five games. Curry was set for a medical checkup on Thursday, but Kerr labeled a weekend return “a long shot,” leading the Warriors to keep the 35-year-old in the Bay Area to work with director of sports medicine Rick Celebrini.

Kerr added that next Friday’s home matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves remains a realistic target for Curry’s return, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater.

The Warriors could also open the trip without Jimmy Butler, who missed the second half of Tuesday’s loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder with left knee soreness. Butler had already been managing a glute contusion along with ankle and back issues for a Golden State squad now sitting at 11-11.

Despite trailing by 22 points on Tuesday, Golden State rallied behind recently signed Seth Curry, who scored 14 points in 14 minutes in his team debut. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander responded with 38 points to close out the Thunder’s win, improving Oklahoma City to 21-1 and sending the Warriors on the road still searching for consistency.
