San Francisco — Draymond Green is expected to remain with the Golden State Warriors on a one-year contract valued at approximately $27.7 million, league sources told ESPN’s Anthony Slater. The veteran forward declined his player option earlier in the offseason but is now on track to re-sign, preserving the club’s long-term cap flexibility while keeping him alongside Stephen Curry.
The Warriors had pursued free agent LeBron James before the four-time MVP chose Philadelphia. Aside from that bid, Golden State’s summer has been relatively quiet after a 37-win campaign that ended with another lottery appearance.
Injury Update
Slater also reported that Jimmy Butler, sidelined by a torn ACL, is more than five months removed from surgery and has “turned a corner” in his rehabilitation. Butler has not yet been cleared to sprint at full speed.
Hawks Approach with Lu Dort
Atlanta does not plan to rush into an extension for newly acquired wing Lu Dort, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. The Hawks traded for Dort earlier in the offseason and intend to preserve roster flexibility before committing to a long-term deal.
With several players on mid-range contracts, Atlanta could package salaries if a marquee player becomes available ahead of February’s trade deadline. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype noted the organization would like to keep Dort beyond next season, though negotiations are not imminent.
