Team officials had not considered Golden State the frontrunner for James, yet his decision is regarded internally as a missed chance to bounce back from last season’s 37-win campaign. The club has pursued several high-profile players in recent years without landing a transformative piece, and discussions about potential deals remain ongoing, the sources said.
Wizards Impressed by Summer League Wings
In Las Vegas, the Washington Wizards left the NBA Summer League encouraged by the progress of their young perimeter corps. Top pick AJ Dybantsa, along with fellow first-rounders Will Riley and Tre Johnson, all displayed reliable scoring spurts, according to The Athletic.
Assistant coach T.J. Sorrentine singled out Riley for his defensive tenacity. “I was actually happy with how hard he competed defensively,” Sorrentine said, noting the guard’s improved physicality and willingness to take on individual matchups. Offensively, the coach labeled Riley “an offensive sponge” while pointing to noticeable improvement as a perimeter shooter. For a franchise rebuilding around youth, coaches considered the showing a positive sign of development.
Jazz Sign Forward Harrison Ingram
The Utah Jazz have invited another young forward to training camp, announcing the signing of 23-year-old Harrison Ingram. The 6-7 swingman spent the past two seasons on two-way contracts with the San Antonio Spurs, appearing in 12 NBA contests. He was more productive with the G League’s Austin affiliate, where he averaged 14.3 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
Contract terms were not disclosed, but league observers expect an Exhibit 10 arrangement, giving Ingram a chance to compete for a standard roster spot when camp opens.
