Golden State is still working to keep Kristaps Porzingis in San Francisco, according to a report from ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel. Discussions between the Warriors and the 7-foot-3 forward/center remain active as free agency approaches.
ESPN’s Anthony Slater recently noted “growing momentum” toward a short-term agreement. While no contract has been finalized, both sides are said to be moving toward a deal that would extend Porzingis’ stay in the Bay Area.
Melton Expected to Decline Player Option
Veteran guard De’Anthony Melton is projected to turn down his $3.45 million player option and explore free agency, Siegel reported. Although a return to Golden State has not been ruled out, league sources believe the 28-year-old will draw interest elsewhere.
Melton delivered career-best scoring numbers in 2025-26, averaging 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals across 49 games (24 starts). His perimeter shooting slipped to 29.4 percent after entering the season as a 38.3 percent career three-point shooter.
Front Office Still Seeking Backcourt Help
Golden State continues to search for an additional playmaking guard. Team officials thought former Arizona standout Brayden Burries might fall to them at No. 11 in last week’s draft after Atlanta and Dallas bypassed him at picks 8 and 9. Instead, Milwaukee selected Burries at No. 10, prompting the Warriors to choose forward Yaxel Lendeborg, a prospect the organization also rated highly.
No timeline has been given for final decisions on Porzingis or Melton as free agency nears.
