Stephen Curry puts health first as Warriors navigate busy offseason

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry says maintaining full health is his main objective during the summer before his 18th NBA season. Speaking with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole, the 38-year-old noted that he is resting more than usual after missing more than two months of the 2025/26 campaign with right knee “runner’s knee.”
“Yeah, it’s just a more patient approach,” Curry said. “Quality over quantity, with the idea that I can still get to the level that I need to.” He added that the knee “is feeling great” while he balances extra rest with added time on the golf course and reduced on-court work.
Rookie Lendeborg draws Curry’s attention
Curry is eager to play alongside first-round pick Yaxel Lendeborg, who shined at both the California Classic and his first Las Vegas Summer League appearance. The former Michigan forward posted 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, 10 rebounds and six assists in 28 minutes during Thursday’s win over Dallas.
“He looked very confident, poised and competitive,” Curry said after watching the games remotely. “Rookies are awesome because they bring such good energy to the locker room, especially guys with the talent like him.”
Cryer impresses on two-way contract
Two-way guard LJ Cryer also delivered on Thursday, recording a team-high 25 points (8-for-14), six rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes. Summer League coach Khalid Robinson praised Cryer’s “decision-making,” highlighting his timing on drives, pull-ups and kick-outs.
Warriors decline to match Post offer sheet
Golden State opted not to match the three-year offer sheet that center Quinten Post signed with the Memphis Grizzlies. According to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Dalton Johnson, the Warriors preferred a starting salary closer to Post’s $2.6 million qualifying offer, well below the $9 million-plus figure from Memphis. The Grizzlies’ contract reportedly includes unlikely incentives that weigh against the tax aprons but not the salary cap, complicating a potential match for Golden State. Losing the former second-round pick is viewed internally as a setback, given the injury histories of Al Horford and Kristaps Porziņģis last season.
Gary Payton II reunion remains possible
League sources told ESPN’s Anthony Slater that the Warriors and free-agent guard Gary Payton II share interest in a reunion. The 10-year veteran has spent parts of six seasons with Golden State and averaged 7.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists across 73 games in 2025/26 while playing 15.6 minutes per night.
The Warriors open training camp in early fall, giving Curry and the rest of the roster several more weeks to finalize preparation and potential roster moves.
