Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly has expressed interest in acquiring Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks and Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies, according to a report from The Athletic.
The outlet cited league sources while covering separate trade speculation involving Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. It did not clarify whether Minnesota’s conversations about Irving and Morant are active or trace back to earlier exploratory talks.
Irving, regarded as one of the NBA’s elite scorers, is currently rehabilitating a torn ACL sustained last season. If his recovery timeline holds, he is not expected to return until sometime before the 2026-27 campaign, leaving him sidelined for more than 18 months.
Morant remains one of the league’s most electrifying guards when healthy. A string of injuries, however, has limited him to 79 games over the past three seasons, raising concerns about his long-term durability and availability.
The Timberwolves have already been linked to several potential roster upgrades this offseason as they look to capitalize on the rise of All-Star guard Anthony Edwards and stay in the Western Conference title mix. Whether Irving or Morant ultimately becomes attainable for Minnesota is still uncertain.
