Phoenix, AZ — After two off-seasons filled with major roster shake-ups, Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia said the organization plans to prioritize continuity moving forward.
Speaking at his end-of-season media session, Ishbia highlighted the culture he believes has taken root since he purchased the team. “We’re not going to do anything silly to mess that up,” he told reporters, according to The Athletic.
Phoenix finished the regular season 45-37, a nine-win improvement over last year’s 36 victories, and returned to the playoffs. The Suns were swept in the opening round by the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, yet Ishbia called the campaign “a step forward.”
“Can we win more games? Can we win a playoff series? That’s what we’re going to focus on,” he said.
General manager Brian Gregory echoed the owner’s stance, saying internal development will take precedence over external changes. “This is an ongoing process,” Gregory noted, per the Arizona Republic, expressing confidence that core players Devin Booker, Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green will benefit from additional time together.
The overarching message from team leadership: fewer overhauls, more growth. Whether that approach will be enough in a competitive Western Conference remains to be seen.
