The Golden State Warriors have reached a two-year agreement with Steve Kerr, keeping the four-time championship coach on the sidelines through what will become his 13th season, according to ESPN.

League sources told the network the new deal will again make Kerr the NBA’s highest-paid head coach on an annual basis. Specific financial terms were not disclosed.

Negotiations intensified in recent weeks, with Kerr meeting several times with majority owner Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy to discuss offensive strategy and the franchise’s long-term direction. Talks concluded late Friday into Saturday, ending speculation about whether the organization would seek a new voice after a 37-45 campaign that ended in the play-in tournament.

“It was never going to be about money,” one team source said. “We had to make the best basketball decision.”

Kerr, 60, acknowledged during the season that coaching jobs “all have an expiration date,” fueling questions about his future. Behind the scenes, the Warriors conducted preliminary research on potential replacements, but key figures—including Lacob, Dunleavy and star guard Stephen Curry—pushed for continuity.

“I want Coach to be happy,” Curry said earlier this spring. “I want him to be excited about the job.”

Hired in 2014, Kerr has guided Golden State to six NBA Finals appearances and four titles, helping establish one of the league’s modern dynasties. His return sets the course for the next phase of the Curry era as the Warriors hold the No. 11 slot in the upcoming draft and are expected to explore roster changes this offseason.
