Miami Heat assistant general manager Adam Simon said the franchise will not rule out selecting an undersized guard with its upcoming lottery pick. “There’s heart and IQ, and players can outplay perceived deficiencies,” Simon told the Sun Sentinel, noting that history shows size is not the only predictor of NBA success.
Prospects in that lighter weight range expected to be in first-round consideration include Alabama’s Labaron Philon Jr. (176 pounds), Texas Tech’s Christian Anderson (180), Louisville’s Mikel Brown Jr. (180), Houston’s Kingston Flemings (183) and Baylor’s Cameron Carr (184). Simon referenced New York guard Jalen Brunson, who guided the Knicks to this season’s Finals, as a recent example of a smaller player excelling at the highest level.
Wizards’ 2024 Avdija Trade Continues to Shape Rebuild
Two years ago, Washington sent forward Deni Avdija to Portland in exchange for a 2024 first-round pick used on Bub Carrington, a protected 2029 first-rounder, second-round selections in 2028 and 2030, and veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon. While Avdija has flourished with the Trail Blazers, the move positioned the Wizards for high lottery picks in both 2025 and 2026, according to The Athletic.
