Second-year center Adem Bona made the most of Joel Embiid’s frequent absences, flashing elite rim protection while exposing several holes in his game. Bona averaged 3.2 blocks per 100 possessions, the league’s ninth-best rate, buoyed by his energy and athleticism. Yet he struggled with defensive rebounding, feel around the basket and in-game reads—deficiencies that resurfaced in the postseason. Team observers view 2026-27 as a pivotal year for the 23-year-old, who is currently penciled in as the third center rather than the primary backup.
The former UCLA big man attempted only six three-pointers this season but said expanding his range is a priority. “That’s definitely a part of my game I want to develop more, earn more trust from my teammates, myself and the coaching staff to take shots like that,” Bona noted, adding that the process will continue next season.
Gansey’s front-office track record
Newly appointed team president Mike Gansey handled multiple responsibilities during more than a decade in Cleveland, including scouting trade and free-agent options. His recent work helped land wing Max Strus and guard Sam Merrill, the latter converting a 10-day contract into a guaranteed deal after proving his value with the Cavaliers.
Walker shows promise, needs consistency
Rookie forward Jabari Walker displayed versatility in his first Philadelphia campaign, rebounding well, delivering passes on short rolls and even filling in as a small-ball center. His ceiling, however, hinges on stabilizing an erratic jump shot. Improving lateral quickness would also help him defend speedier wings and undersized bigs.
Lowry’s leadership outweighs minutes
Kyle Lowry logged just 118 minutes without attempting a two-pointer, but teammates credited the 40-year-old with shaping their approach to the game. “I couldn’t do this without him, honestly, right now,” Tyrese Maxey said, noting daily conversations with the veteran guard. Lowry has not announced plans for 2026-27, though signs point toward the close of his playing career.
