The Detroit Pistons are being watched as a potential third participant in any future trade discussions that would send Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat, league insider Marc Stein reported.
According to Stein, Detroit’s involvement could see Heat guard Tyler Herro rerouted to the Pistons. Herro’s name has circulated in speculation for several weeks, but the latest report indicates the Pistons’ interest goes beyond outside chatter.
Detroit, coming off a 60-win campaign, is seeking additional shooting and playmaking around franchise cornerstone Cade Cunningham. Herro, 26, has averaged at least 20 points and four assists in each of the past five seasons and is regarded as one of the league’s more reliable perimeter shooters. He is entering the final year of his contract and is owed $33 million in 2026-27.
Should Milwaukee ultimately decide to move Antetokounmpo, many executives expect the Bucks to pivot toward a younger roster—one in which Herro, who is likely headed for another sizable contract, may not fit long-term.
Stein added that the Pistons are exploring multiple options to upgrade the roster this summer. Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving and New Orleans Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III have been frequently linked to Detroit, while Charlotte Hornets guard Coby White, Oklahoma City Thunder wing Isaiah Joe and Sacramento Kings guard Zach LaVine are also reportedly on the team’s radar.
If the Bucks, Heat and Pistons can find common ground, Detroit could become a key piece in one of the offseason’s most significant trade conversations.
