The Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics have held preliminary talks on a deal that would move All-Star guard Jaylen Brown to Detroit, with center Jalen Duren positioned as the primary chip in a potential sign-and-trade, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

League sources told the outlet that negotiations are in the early stages and no agreement is considered close. Boston is reportedly evaluating Brown’s market value while searching for added size and lineup flexibility after its first-round playoff exit to Philadelphia and an unsuccessful bid for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Celtics had previously included Brown in an offer to the Milwaukee Bucks before Antetokounmpo was ultimately dealt to the Miami Heat, the report said.

Detroit, meanwhile, continues to seek a proven perimeter scorer to pair with Cade Cunningham. The Pistons have been linked to Austin Reaves, Tyler Herro, Norman Powell and Coby White this offseason, though Reaves and White have since re-signed with their current teams.

Duren’s contract status has become a separate storyline. The 20-year-old averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds during the regular season, but talks on a new deal have reportedly stalled, increasing expectations he will enter restricted free agency.

For now, discussions between Detroit and Boston remain exploratory, with both clubs assessing their options ahead of the summer transaction period.
