The Indiana Pacers have waived guard Mac McClung and signed veteran point guard Monte Morris to a one-year contract, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

Reporter Dustin Dopirak of the Indianapolis Star said the agreement is non-guaranteed, while ESPN’s Bobby Marks noted that cutting McClung will leave a $164,060 cap charge for the remainder of the season.

Morris, 28, is entering his ninth NBA campaign and arrives as the Pacers deal with multiple injuries in the backcourt. He owns a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.9-to-1 and appeared in 45 games for the Phoenix Suns last season, averaging 5.2 points, 1.6 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 12.7 minutes.

Indiana initially intended to add Morris before training camp, but a calf strain in September delayed the move.

McClung, a three-time Slam Dunk Contest champion, logged just three games with the Pacers, posting 6.3 points in 11.3 minutes per outing.

Head coach Rick Carlisle is expected to activate Morris quickly. “We need someone who can organize us,” a team source told Hoops Wire. “Right now, we are stretched thin. Monte will help the room.”

The Pacers are 1-7 after their recent loss to the Brooklyn Nets.
