NEW YORK, Sept. 29, 2025 — Newly hired Knicks head coach Mike Brown plans to give his roster a green light from beyond the arc, telling reporters after Friday’s practice he is “cool” if the club launches 40 three-pointers a night. Brown cited the team’s pace, spacing and paint touches as keys to generating catch-and-shoot looks and noted that, aside from center Mitchell Robinson, every projected rotation player should be capable of converting at least league-average from long range if Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet make the regular-season roster.
During media day, Brown highlighted Shamet’s two-way potential. The 6’4″ guard, who finished last season with New York, is back on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 contract. Brown praised Shamet’s habit of sprinting to the corners in transition, calling the threat of his shooting a defense-“flattening” element that opens driving lanes. The coach also lauded Shamet’s willingness to “stick his nose in” on defense.
Across the East River, Nets forward Noah Clowney spent the summer adding muscle to his 6’10″ frame. Head coach Jordi Fernández said the 21-year-old “looks like a grown man,” crediting his improved strength while emphasizing continued work on shooting, playing off two feet, cutting turnovers and finishing at the rim.
Another Nets newcomer, Michael Porter Jr., acknowledged on the “Respectfully The Justin Laboy Podcast” that his long injury history has him re-evaluating how long he wants to keep playing. Porter, who has undergone three back surgeries and is managing lingering nerve damage, is owed $78 million over the next two seasons. He said he intends to commit fully to the upcoming year before deciding on his future.
In the G League, the Long Island Nets acquired the returning-player rights to center David Muoka from the Windy City Bulls, sending a 2025 first-round and a 2026 second-round pick in exchange.
