NBA Trade Rumor: Proposed Deal Would Ship Trae Young From Hawks to Suns

Bleacher Report columnist Zach Buckley has outlined a hypothetical deal that would send Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young to the Phoenix Suns, a scenario that would immediately reshape both franchises’ backcourts.

The Proposed Trade

Suns receive: Trae Young
Hawks receive: Jalen Green, Nick Richards, Rasheer Fleming, a 2027 first-round pick (via Utah, Cleveland or Minnesota) and a 2029 second-round pick

Why Phoenix Might Be Interested

Buckley argued that pairing Young with Devin Booker would reduce Booker’s offensive workload. Young’s “prolific playmaking and deep scoring range,” he wrote, would demand constant defensive attention and could make Phoenix a more versatile two-way threat when combined with front-court size.

Atlanta’s Situation

Young has been sidelined since spraining his MCL on Oct. 29, and the Hawks have maintained a 12-8 record during his absence. Contract talks on a possible four-year, $229 million extension have reportedly stalled, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, prompting league observers to wonder whether Atlanta would consider a roster reset.

The three-time All-Star is earning $45.9 million this season and can enter free agency next summer if he declines a $48.9 million player option. In five games before the injury he averaged 17.8 points and 7.8 assists on 37 percent shooting; his career marks stand at 25.2 points and 9.8 assists, highlighted by leading the Hawks to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals.

Current Team Records

Both the Suns and Hawks hold identical 12-8 records. Though no concrete negotiations have been reported, the league’s trade landscape can shift quickly as deadlines approach.
