The NBA will announce its 2025-26 Most Valuable Player on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET during an Amazon Prime broadcast, minutes before Game 7 of the Cavaliers-Pistons second-round series tips off.

Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder, Nuggets center Nikola Jokić and Spurs rookie center Victor Wembanyama are the three finalists.

Season resumes for each candidate

Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City to an NBA-best 64 regular-season victories while averaging 31.1 points, 6.6 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals across 68 games, shooting a career-high 55.3 percent from the floor.

Jokić, attempting to collect his fourth MVP trophy, produced a second straight season-long triple-double with 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and a personal-best 10.7 assists in 70 appearances for Denver.

Wembanyama finished his first NBA campaign with 25.0 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.1 blocks in 64 games. Named Defensive Player of the Year last month, the 7-foot-4 French standout would become the first player from France to secure the league’s top individual honor.

Timing could hint at result

The Western Conference Finals between the Spurs and Thunder open Monday. The Associated Press noted that unveiling the MVP before that series begins may signal another win for Gilgeous-Alexander; last season, his award was disclosed on May 21 and he received the trophy the following day before Game 2 in Oklahoma City.
