Warriors
The Golden State Warriors continue to monitor New Orleans Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III, a player they have long regarded as a seamless fit in Steve Kerr’s rotation, ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported. Murphy, 25, is valued for his multipositional defense, perimeter shooting and low-usage style—traits the Warriors believe complement Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler while helping the roster get younger.
New Orleans has typically set a high asking price for Murphy, yet league sources told ESPN the Pelicans are interested in moving into the lottery. Golden State controls the No. 11 pick in next week’s draft, a potential asset in any negotiation.
Slater added that the Warriors remain cautious about exchanging long-term pieces for short-term gains. Despite rumored interest in stars such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard, the organization is expected to take a more deliberate approach than in previous off-seasons.
Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks are confident they can re-sign veteran guard CJ McCollum, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto noted that rival executives project a new contract in the neighborhood of $20 million per year.
Even with a McCollum return, Atlanta plans additional moves. Fischer reported the front office is seeking another downhill playmaker in the backcourt and could pursue frontcourt depth beside Onyeka Okongwu. Team sources expect at least one of those needs to be addressed with the No. 8 overall pick in next week’s draft.
Celtics
The Boston Celtics have multiple strategic paths this summer, Spotrac’s Keith Smith wrote. Options include keeping most of the current roster intact, pursuing a major trade, or targeting incremental upgrades.
Smith indicated the most practical course is fine-tuning around the edges. Potential targets mentioned for that approach include Anfernee Simons, Quentin Grimes and John Collins.
The NBA draft is scheduled for next week, and each team’s plans could begin to crystallize as the event approaches.
