DETROIT — The Detroit Pistons said guard Cade Cunningham will be re-evaluated in one week as he continues to recover from a collapsed lung. The team offered no additional details.
ESPN’s Vincent Goodwill previously reported a tentative two-week recovery window followed by a ramp-up period ahead of the playoffs, but it is unclear whether that schedule remains in place. Cunningham will not reach the 65-game minimum required for postseason awards, ending any MVP or All-NBA considerations. Before the injury, the 22-year-old averaged 24.5 points, 9.9 assists and 5.6 rebounds while guiding Detroit to the Eastern Conference’s No. 1 seed. The Pistons have gone 6-2 in his absence over the past two weeks.
Wizards Rule Out Kyshawn George
WASHINGTON — The Wizards announced that forward Kyshawn George will miss the final two weeks of the season with a Grade 2 UCL tear in his left elbow. The club expects a full recovery in time for training camp.
George, 24, started all 48 games he played this year and posted career highs of 14.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists, giving Washington a promising building block for the offseason.
Jazz Retain Bez Mbeng
SALT LAKE CITY — After the expiration of his second 10-day contract, guard Bez Mbeng has signed a two-year deal with the Utah Jazz, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The second season is expected to be non-guaranteed.
Mbeng, 23, averaged 5.0 points, 3.4 assists and 1.7 steals in extended minutes. While his shooting percentages lagged, his defensive impact convinced Utah to keep him through at least the remainder of the current campaign.
