Several NBA clubs — including the Miami Heat — are evaluating potential trades for Washington Wizards guard Trae Young, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
League sources told Fischer that Miami has identified Young as a contingency target if the franchise is unable to land Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Heat’s alternative list also features Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard and Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant.
Any deal for Young would hinge on the four-time All-Star opting into his $49 million player option for the 2026-27 season. The 27-year-old must make that decision by June 23.
The Hawks received little interest when they sent Young to Washington in January, but front offices now see a greater need for proven playmakers after the NBA flattened lottery odds, Fischer reported. Those changes reduced the draft advantage historically held by the league’s bottom three teams.
Washington finished with the NBA’s worst record last season, giving the franchise incentive to keep Young. The eight-year veteran appeared in only 15 games because of injury yet reportedly valued the support he received from Wizards fans.
Potential Contract Figures
Initial projections suggested Young might re-sign at roughly $40 million annually. Fischer notes that renewed trade interest could drive his price closer to a maximum deal: up to $212.9 million over four years with another team or $287.1 million over five years if he stays in Washington.
