Daryl Morey is out as president of basketball operations for the Philadelphia 76ers after six seasons, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Morey met Tuesday evening in Philadelphia with team owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer, who informed him of the decision. Head coach Nick Nurse, however, will be retained for a fourth year, ownership told the coach during the same round of discussions.
Bob Myers—formerly a top executive with the Golden State Warriors and now president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment—will oversee the basketball department on an interim basis. Myers has also been tasked with leading the search for the franchise’s next head of basketball operations.
The move separates the fates of the front-office chief and the head coach, an uncommon approach that gives Nurse job security while the organization looks for new executive leadership.
