Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving told viewers on a recent Twitch stream that his left ACL is “almost 100 percent” healed, 14 months after surgery.
“I’m grateful for the time to recover and really push my body, on and off the court,” Irving said, according to Grant Afseth of the Dallas Hoops Journal. The 32-year-old added that the extended break has allowed him to feel fresher than at any point since entering the league in 2011 and that the game now “slows down” for him while he performs more efficiently.
Schmitz confident in Irving–Flagg pairing
New general manager Mike Schmitz expressed confidence that Irving will blend seamlessly with No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg. “Seeing him locked in around the facility every day has been really impressive,” Schmitz told reporters, noting Irving’s leadership and commitment during rehab. “That gives us a ton of optimism about his fit with Cooper.”
Coaching search remains wide open
Schmitz said the front office is conducting an exhaustive search to replace former head coach Jason Kidd. “We’re being very thorough,” he explained. “There’s no exact timeline, and we’re evaluating everything to make the best decision for the franchise.” While league insiders expect the club to hire an experienced bench leader, Schmitz emphasized that no option is off the table.
Focus on impact talent at No. 9
With the ninth selection in next month’s draft, Dallas is prioritizing upside over positional need. “It’s about finding a difference-maker,” Schmitz told the Dallas Morning News. “Whether that’s a big, a guard, or a wing doesn’t matter. We love the range at 9.” The Mavericks also hold picks 30 and 48, giving them additional flexibility on draft night.
