Shooting guard Matt Able has taken his name out of the 2026 NBA draft and will suit up for the University of North Carolina next season, the 19-year-old told Andscape’s Marc J. Spears.

“I’m grateful for the feedback I received throughout this process and excited to be a part of the Tar Heel family,” Able said in a statement.

The 6’5” guard spent his freshman year coming off the bench for NC State, averaging 8.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals across 21.8 minutes in 34 games. He shot 41.6% from the field, 35.5% from three-point range and 79.6% at the free-throw line.

Able was invited to the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, where he impressed scouts with a strong wingspan measurement and a 17-point outing that included four three-pointers during five-on-five scrimmage play.

ESPN initially listed him as the No. 60 prospect when he declared in April. By late May, Jeremy Woo’s mock draft had moved him up to No. 33. Instead of turning pro, Able will look to enhance his stock further while collecting Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) benefits during his sophomore campaign in Chapel Hill.
