Veteran wing Marco Belinelli announced Monday that he is ending his playing career, closing the book on 13 NBA seasons and five additional years in Italy.

The 39-year-old shared the news on Instagram on Aug. 18, writing that basketball “gave me everything and I gave it everything I had.”

Selected 18th overall by Golden State in the 2007 draft, the 6’5” Italian appeared in 860 regular-season games with nine NBA teams: the Warriors, Raptors, Hornets (then New Orleans), Bulls, Spurs, Hornets (Charlotte), Hawks, 76ers and a second stint with San Antonio. He averaged 9.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 22.7 minutes, shooting 42.4% from the field, 37.6% from three and 84.6% at the foul line. His 1,216 career three-pointers highlight a reputation as a dependable perimeter shooter.

Belinelli’s peak season came in 2013-14 with San Antonio. He posted 11.4 points per game, connected on a career-best 43.0% of his three-point attempts, won the NBA Three-Point Contest and appeared in all 23 playoff games as the Spurs captured the championship.

After leaving the NBA in 2020, Belinelli returned to Virtus Bologna, the club where he debuted as a teenager. He helped secure Lega Serie A titles in 2021 and 2025, earned Sixth Man of the Year honors in 2022 and 2023, and captured league MVP in 2024.
