Steve Kerr’s Future With Warriors in Doubt as League Sees Possible Return to TV

Momentum is building across the NBA that Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr may be headed back to the broadcast booth, multiple league sources told Hoops Wire.
Kerr’s contract has expired, and people familiar with the situation say the 60-year-old coach is expected to spend the next week or two before meeting with owner Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. to discuss his future. Kerr has publicly stated that if he leaves Golden State, it will not be to coach another team.
Front Office Sports recently named Kerr a leading target for national television networks, echoing the belief held by several executives that the four-time championship coach could resume the on-air role he held at Turner Sports prior to taking over the Warriors in 2014.
Locker-Room Uncertainty
Inside the team, opinions are mixed. Forward Draymond Green hinted after the season that Kerr might be finished, while other players have voiced support for his return. Although an extension remains possible, outside speculation has intensified.
Broadcast Credentials Already in Place
Before coaching, Kerr served as a TNT analyst and later held the position of president of basketball operations for the Phoenix Suns. His media résumé also includes writing stints at Yahoo Sports and Grantland, making a return to television a straightforward transition.
Warriors at a Crossroads
Kerr has guided Golden State for 12 seasons, steering the franchise to four titles and establishing one of the league’s modern dynasties. However, the current roster straddles a line between contention and retooling, a reality Kerr has acknowledged while assessing whether he wants to keep leading the group at this stage of his career.
A final decision is expected soon, but league insiders increasingly view broadcasting as his most likely next step.
