The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly open to dealing star guard Ja Morant, yet league sources say the franchise may struggle to find a partner willing to meet its asking price.
A league-wide trade roundup published by Heavy Sports described Morant as one of the most closely watched names of the offseason, but multiple front-office executives quoted in the report believe Memphis faces an uphill battle in securing substantial value.
Morant, 26, remains one of the NBA’s most dynamic players when available. Injuries, league suspensions and ongoing questions about dependability, however, have dampened enthusiasm among potential suitors.
“I think there’s a team or two that would take the chance, especially if you’re just looking to raise your ceiling a little bit,” a Western Conference executive told Heavy Sports, emphasizing that overall demand is expected to be modest.
An unnamed executive indicated that the Grizzlies would prefer to acquire meaningful assets without attaching draft picks simply to move Morant’s contract—a scenario some rivals doubt exists at the moment.
The Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks were cited as possible destinations, while the Miami Heat could enter the conversation if their pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo stalls. The Minnesota Timberwolves have also been mentioned as a club that might explore the idea.
Momentum toward any transaction appears limited. A league source told Hoops Wire that significant movement is unlikely until the Antetokounmpo situation in Milwaukee becomes clearer.
